Retouch Example
I used Photoshop to remove the blemishes on the girl's face. To do this I opened the photo in Photoshop. I opened the layers tab in the bottom right corner. I added a layer by selecting the icon that looks like a paper with a folded edge in the bottom right corner. Then, I selected the Spot Healing Brush tool. It's icon looks like a band-aid with a handle and it is the eighth one down on the left toolbar. I used the bracket keys of my keyboard to change the size of my cursor so it was slightly bigger than the blemish. Then I left clicked on the zit to remove it from her face. I continued this process to remove all the blemishes on her face until her skin was clear. I made sure that her skin wasn't messed up by any usage of the tool. If it was I clicked Ctrl and Z on my keyboard to undo it and tried again using a different cursor size. Lastly I saved the photo in my H: drive as a JPEG so Blogger would support it.

Saturation and Masking Example
To saturate this photo I added a layer by clicking the black and white circle in the bottom right corner. I drop down menu appeared and I chose "hue/saturation." Then I moved the slider labeled saturation to 50. To mask the photo I chose the brush tool on the left tool bar. In the bottom left there was a black square and a white square. I used the arrows in a corner to switch the dominant color to black. I made sure I was using 100% opacity in the tool bar and that the mode was normal. I began moving my cursor over the girl because I did not want the saturation to affect her. I was careful to only move over the girl. To do the edges of the girl I lowered my brush size. I used the zoom tool on the left tool bar and clicked where I wanted to start doing the edges. I clicked back into the brush tool and began moving my cursor around the edges of the girl making sure to saturate her fully without undoing the saturation of the background. I used the backslash key so where I had gotten rid of the saturation was highlighted red. I use this to make sure all of the girl wasn't saturated and the background was still completely saturated. If I had taken away the saturation where I didn't want to I used the arrows in a corner in the bottom left corner to switch the brush tool to white. I ran my cursor over where I wanted the saturation back. When done I used the arrows in a corner again to switch back and remove more saturation where I wanted. Using the brush tool and zoom tool I worked around the entirety of the girl until I had gotten the result I wanted. Then I clicked file, save as, and saved it as a JPEG image.

Crop and Straighten Example
To crop and straighten the photo I used Adobe Photoshop. Once opening Photoshop I clicked open on the left. I found the photo in my files and uploaded it. I hovered over the tools in Photoshop til I found one that said crop. It should be the fifth one down on the toolbar to the left. I clicked the drop down menu that had the size ratio of the picture. I changed it to 1:1 (Square). Then I hovered over the tools once again to find the tool called straighten. It should be the first button after the drop down menus in the the top toolbar. I used my mouse and clicked on the horizon and held down as I dragged my mouse across the horizon line. When I reached the end of the horizon line I let go of my mouse making the picture straighten. To save it as a JPEG image I clicked file in the top left corner. I clicked on the save as button in the drop down menu. It should be the eleventh option going down. I clicked the drop down menu that said Photoshop and chose the first JPEG option listed. Then I named the photo "Crop Example." In the left menu of drives I found my student drive. I double clicked to open it. I double clicked to open Digital Photo, then again to open Demo Pics. I clicked save to save it in that folder.

About the Artist
My name is MacKenzie. I am 14 years old and I love the arts. Ever since I was in early elementary school I would bring my camera everywhere. It wasn't the best camera but it made my 5 year old heart happy. Currently I am saving up to buy a real camera. My favorite thing to photograph is nature. I love the lines and colors that show up in the photograph. I have also been invested in dance since I was two years old. My favorite genre is pointe, but I also do tap, jazz, ballet, and hip hop. I like to work with music whether it be composing, writing lyrics, playing any instrument, or listening to other's creations. Music has always been my passion and my parents tell me of times when I could first walk but instead danced. I love to write short stories and draw as well. I enjoy fashion and making outfits although my style does not reflect that. I have six pets, two dogs, two cats, and two pigs. I've been training dogs since before I could remember. My dad taught me when I was very young and every Saturday morning I would go to the shelter with him to help train his clients. My dream job is to be a therapist for children, but that only fulfills some of my passions so I want to have part time jobs in those areas. I want to get a doctorate in psychology. I have a brother and my best friend who I call my sister. We've known each other for ten years and grew up together. My favorite thing to do with friends/family is travel. Overall my life is busy, but I enjoy never being bored.
